The year: 500 B.C.
Nine, eleven year old kid’s, plus me, are escaping the apocalypse. Space inside the time machine and weight restrictions make it so we can only take what we can carry. The time machine kills all electronics and may cause heart problems, or make us go crazy, but we have no choice. My mom developed the time machine before the apocalypse. My dad found the location and time to travel to. He is sure we won’t end up in the middle of a mountain. We each have a one week supply of food, camping dishes, a space blanket and a plastic poncho in a camping backpack. We also have sleeping bags tied to our backpacks and we’re each carrying a pillow. We’re all wearing the same things : underwear (and bras for girls), plain white tee shirt’s, long underwear (pants and shirts), jeans, sweaters, light jackets, snow pants, parkas, two pairs of socks, mittens, and bike helmets. We share two five man tents, and 100 gallons of water in two 50 gallon drums my dad stacked in the time machine. The inside of the time machine is about as big as a large walk-in closet, only it’s round. In testing, my mom found out that adults cannot time travel. They arrive at a location but they are crazy. Kids have more pliable minds and should be able to survive… she thinks. If we stay we’ll die for sure, so it’s worth the risk. She says the trip will feel about 3 seconds long, if we don’t pass out. She said if we were traveling distance (instead of time) we’d travel about 31 trillion kilometers in the same 3 seconds. But we’re traveling time and so we’ll travel about 2500 years and, Dad says we’ll drift about 9000 kilometers. So we’ll land on the island of Sicily, Italy. Dad thinks we’ll have neighbors but we shouldn’t land in somebodies backyard. I can’t comprehend 2000 years but it’s a once in a million thing – I’m probably going to hate it.
Meet the ten of us:
1. Me – inventive, leader, stubborn, but you already know me.
2. Brian – super smart, handy with tools, not so friendly
3. Angela – expert archer, witty, moody
4. Jason – very strong, very friendly, not so smart
5. David – loves the wilderness, boy scout, head in the clouds
6. Emily – resourceful, funny (she’s always happy), very bad timing
7. Jenna – jack of all trades, remembers everything, loves singing but is horrible at it
8. King – really big and strong, soldier type guy, very headstrong
9. Vanessa – optimist, thinks outside of the box, way too sarcastic
10. Belle – strong, smart, spoiled
Here are the ten special things we are taking back in time…
1. Belle takes a machete in a sheath with a sharpening stone.
2. Vanessa takes a hand crank spotlight.
3. King takes a big hunk of magnesium and large fire steel bar the size of a chalkboard eraser.
4. Jenna takes a first aid kit with gauze, ace bandages, lots of Neosporin, about a million band aids, and enough antibiotics for 20 illnesses.
5. Emily takes a sewing kit with needles, pins, a lot of elastic, 20 spools of thread, and 100 denim patches.
6. Jason takes a three in one book set called Academics, there’s a science, a history, and a literature book. I think Brian asked him to take the book set.
7. David takes a fold up fishing rod and tackle box.
8. Angela takes her compound bow, her quiver with 20 carbon nanotube arrows, and 60 tips.
9. Brian takes 10 chalkboards. We think we’ll use rocks on Sicily as chalk.
10. Me. I take a map of the Sicily, Italy, the way it was in 500BC.
Then, all packed up and ready to go, we squeeze into the walk-in, time machine, closet. One by one, we all pass out, when we wake up… Well thats for next time.
Bye
