Wait, this can’t be right?

Sicily is much bigger than this. I thought that My map said that Sicily’s area is 9921 square miles, not square feet. I need to talk to the group about this. “What?!? Were not on Sicily!?!?” Brian yells awakening the others. “Huh?? Were not on Sicily?” Emily says.
“Yes, we are not on Sicily. I think we are on an island near Sicily” I say.

“Well, the goal was to save us from the Apocalypse, and it worked.” Vanessa said.

“Ya, but we don’t know where we are.”  King said.

Well, we were in a pickle. “We still have to find food, you know.” Emily said.

That made me think, I saw some movement in the bushes. I thought it was a rabbit like thing.

“Hey Jason.” I say

“What.” he said.

“Remember the book set you brought” I said

“Yes?”

“Earlier I saw a huge rabbit like thing in the bushes. Can we look it up?” I said.

The journey begins.

One by one, we all pass out, when we wake up it’s dark and raining, and there is thunder and lightning.  Emily shook me awake.  We’re all dazed.  One of our 50 gallon drums is knocked over.  Emily walks over to it and yells, “Empty!” I can barely hear her over the rain. We need to take a head count, “Brian?”

“Here”

“Angela?”

“Here”

“Jason?  Jason!”

Angela yells, “He’s here but still knocked out… at least I think that he’s knocked out?”

I go over to see, “I think he’s just knocked out.” Before we left, my Mom told me that the bigger the person, the longer they stay knocked out. After all, he is the second biggest person in the group.

“David?”

“Here”

“Jenna?”

“Here”

“King?… King!”

David yelled, “Also knocked out!”

“That leaves Vanessa? and Belle?”

Vanessa yells, “Here, and I think Jenna’s sitting on me!”

Belle yells back, “No, it’s me.  I’m here too!”

The rain was overpowering. It was cold, very cold. If a had to guess, I would say 35 degrees Fahrenheit, (about 2 degrees Celsius). I told Emily to pick the drum up so we could collect the rain. King and Jason were awake now. They were putting the boys tent together. Emily and Jenna were putting up the girls tent.  Now I wished we had some tarps.  Then I remembered the space blankets.  I got the space blanket out of my pack and yelled, “Cover as much stuff as you can!!” I covered the first aid kit, sewing kit, the map, and the books. Vanessa did the same. Soon, all of the goods were covered.

It appears that we are on top of a mountain. “The tents are up!” Jenna yells, breaking my train of thought. We need to get everyone and everything inside of them. We start getting all of the stuff except the 50 gallon drums in one of the tents and all of us in the other tent. We got it done in a matter of seconds, “Time for lunch!”David yells.

“And what are we having Mister chef?” Vanessa asks.

“I was just kidding.” David mumbled.

King said “Well, what do we do now?”

“We need to wait till it stops raining, then we will explore the island and find more food.” I said

“Why can’t we explore now?” Angela said with a irritable tone.

“Have you seen outside?!? It’s raining cats and dogs, it’s cold. Oh, and it’s the middle of the night!!!!” I said right back.

“OK, we all just need to calm down.” Jason said.

“Yes, let’s try to get some sleep” King Said.

“Why did the owl g-”

“Not now, Emily” David said.

We all lay down hoping tomorrow is better than today.

“Hey, wake up…”

“Ugh” I say

~~Slap!!~~

“AHHHHH!!!!!!” I leap to my feat.

Brian starts laughing at me. I almost punch him but he dodges. “You should have seen you’re face!” Brian said.

“Never, do that again… Man what time is it?” I say

“‘Bout 6:30.” Brian said

“How long have you been awake.” I say

“I didn’t sleep,” he said, “but it stopped raining.”

“Get some sleep, I’m going to go get some fresh air.” I said

I walk out of the crowded tent to see that Sicily is a LOT smaller than I thought.

Ten armloads to take back in time.

The year: 500 B.C.

Nine, eleven year old kid’s, plus me, are escaping the apocalypse.  Space inside the time machine and weight restrictions make it so we can only take what we can carry.  The time machine kills all electronics and may cause heart problems, or make us go crazy, but we have no choice.  My mom developed the time machine before the apocalypse.  My dad found the location and time to travel to.  He is sure we won’t end up in the middle of a mountain.  We each have a one week supply of food, camping dishes, a space blanket and a plastic poncho in a camping backpack.  We also have sleeping bags tied to our backpacks and we’re each carrying a pillow.  We’re all wearing the same things : underwear (and bras for girls), plain white tee shirt’s, long underwear (pants and shirts), jeans, sweaters, light jackets, snow pants, parkas, two pairs of socks, mittens, and bike helmets.  We share two five man tents, and 100 gallons of water in two 50 gallon drums my dad stacked in the time machine.  The inside of the time machine is about as big as a large walk-in closet, only it’s round.  In testing, my mom found out that adults cannot time travel.  They arrive at a location but they are crazy.  Kids have more pliable minds and should be able to survive… she thinks.  If we stay we’ll die for sure, so it’s worth the risk.  She says the trip will feel about 3 seconds long, if we don’t pass out.  She said if we were traveling distance (instead of time) we’d travel about 31 trillion kilometers in the same 3 seconds.  But we’re traveling time and so we’ll travel about 2500 years and, Dad says we’ll drift about 9000 kilometers.  So we’ll land on the island of Sicily, Italy.  Dad thinks we’ll have neighbors but we shouldn’t land in somebodies backyard.  I can’t comprehend 2000 years but it’s a once in a million thing – I’m probably going to hate it.

Meet the ten of us:

1.  Me – inventive, leader, stubborn, but you already know me.

2.  Brian – super smart, handy with tools, not so friendly

3.  Angela – expert archer, witty, moody

4.  Jason – very strong, very friendly, not so smart

5.  David – loves the wilderness, boy scout, head in the clouds

6.  Emily – resourceful, funny (she’s always happy), very bad timing

7.  Jenna –  jack of all trades, remembers everything, loves singing but is horrible at it

8.  King – really big and strong, soldier type guy, very headstrong

9.  Vanessa – optimist, thinks outside of the box, way too sarcastic

10.  Belle – strong, smart, spoiled

Here are the ten special things we are taking back in time…

1.  Belle takes a machete in a sheath with a sharpening stone.

2.  Vanessa takes a hand crank spotlight.

3.  King takes a big hunk of magnesium and large fire steel bar the size of a chalkboard eraser.

4.  Jenna takes a first aid kit with gauze, ace bandages, lots of Neosporin, about a million band aids, and enough antibiotics for 20 illnesses.

5.  Emily takes a sewing kit with needles, pins, a lot of elastic, 20 spools of thread, and 100 denim patches.

6.  Jason takes a three in one book set called Academics, there’s a science, a history, and a literature book.  I think Brian asked him to take the book set.

7.  David takes a fold up fishing rod and tackle box.

8.  Angela takes her compound bow, her quiver with 20 carbon nanotube arrows, and 60 tips.

9.  Brian takes 10 chalkboards.  We think we’ll use rocks on Sicily as chalk.

10.  Me.  I take a map of the Sicily, Italy, the way it was in 500BC.

Then, all packed up and ready to go, we squeeze into the walk-in, time machine, closet.  One by one, we all pass out, when we wake up… Well thats for next time.

Bye
